Paint Scape Paints - Summer Paint Colours

3 Colours that'll make your home feel like Summer

Summer light is strong, and the first thing it hits is the outside of your house. The colour on those walls decides whether the place looks bright and welcoming in that light, or flat and tired. If you're planning an exterior repaint before the heat really sets in, these are three shades worth putting on your shortlist, and what each one does for a home.
1. Cream Pastel: soft and sun-washed
Cream Pastel is the easy win. It's a light, soft tone that makes a house look bigger, brighter and more welcoming, which is exactly what you want from the street. Lighter colours reflect more of the light that lands on them, so walls that sit in partial shade tend to look more open and less heavy than they would in a deeper shade.
It works especially well on smaller homes, or on houses where one side doesn't get much direct sun. It also plays nicely with almost any trim colour, so it won't box you in if you want to change the doors or window frames later.
2. Creamy Beige: warm and earthy
Creamy Beige has a little more warmth and depth than Cream Pastel. It brings that relaxed bushveld-lodge feel to a home, the kind of colour that looks right next to natural stone, timber and a garden full of green.
If your property has a lot of landscaping, a thatch or tiled roof, or face brick elsewhere, this is the one that tends to sit comfortably with all of it rather than fighting it. It's a good pick when you want the house to feel settled into its surroundings.
3. Grey Whisper: calm and modern
Grey Whisper is the cooler option, a calm, modern neutral that pairs beautifully with black window frames and wood. If your home leans contemporary, or you're planning to add dark frames, a timber gate or a wooden deck, this is the shade that makes those details stand out instead of competing with them.
It's a quieter look than the two creams, and it reads as clean and current without being cold, especially in strong sun.

How to choose between them

Choosing the right coating

The colour is only half the decision. An exterior wall takes sun, rain and dust year-round, so the coating matters as much as the shade.
All Weather Textured is a premium acrylic exterior wall coating designed for durability, UV stability, scrub resistance, water resistance, flexibility and strength. It has a fine textured matt finish, excellent colour fastness, and it's non-toxic. It's available in virtually any colour, so all three shades above can be matched on it. The textured finish also tends to be more forgiving on older walls than a smooth matt finish, because it doesn't show small surface imperfections as clearly.

Don't skip the prep

A good colour on a badly prepared wall won't last. Clean the surface, repair any cracks, deal with damp if there is any, and prime where the wall needs it before the topcoat goes on. We've written guides on how to prep your walls, why and how to prime, and how to tell rising, lateral and penetrating damp apart, so you can work through those first...

The takeaway

Whether you go for the soft brightness of Cream Pastel, the warmth of Creamy Beige, or the calm modern look of Grey Whisper, the aim is the same: a home that looks good in full summer sun and keeps looking that way. Pick the colour that works with what's already around your house, test it on the wall, and put it on in a coating built for the weather.
